Premiums Explode for Car Insurance in Switzerland
Swiss drivers are paying more and more for their car insurance. Premiums have risen significantly in the last two years. According to a survey by the comparison portal Bonus.ch, 69 percent of policyholders have had to pay higher premiums.
41 percent of respondents reported a slight increase, while 28 percent even reported a significant premium increase. Only 31 percent did not notice any increase in their car insurance.
The large differences between insurers are striking. While less than half of Mobiliar's customers were affected by higher premiums, almost all Zurich policyholders had to dig deeper into their pockets.
Despite this, few drivers are switching providers. Last year, only 12 percent changed their car insurance. Bonus.ch therefore speaks of a certain "inertia among policyholders." Meanwhile, 38 percent of respondents believe their premium is not justified in relation to their driving profile.
Important to know: In the case of a general premium increase, policyholders usually have the right to cancel their car insurance outside the normal cancellation period. The situation is different if the increase is due to an individual claim.
